Outsourcing Email - Venture Provides Smooth Transition For PCH Hotels and Resorts, Inc.

RIDGELAND, MISSISSIPPI: A big decision in doing business is whether to keep all aspects of the business "in-house" or to outsource some services. Scott Watts, director of Information Technology for Alabama-based PCH Hotels and Resorts, Inc., was not (and still isn't) a big proponent of managed services or outsourcing. However, he realized that with the way his company was growing, he needed help with the company's email system.

PCH Hotels and Resorts was founded in 2000, and the types of properties they operate include hotel, resort, conference center, golf/country club, marina and spa. Starting with the Grand Hotel in Point Clear, Alabama, the company has expanded to include a hotel on the 54-hole Grand National Golf Course, part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, among others.

The company has grown from a single property to seven and is still in growing mode. The email system went from a 75-user network to a 200-user network. "We found that email was one of the most critical technical applications—mainly because it's the one we hear about the most when it goes down," said Watts. "When we decided to outsource the service, we got bids from a couple of companies, but from the start, we were impressed with Venture Technologies. They had obviously put a lot of effort into building a state-of-the-art data center, and they were concerned about our business. Venture Technologies took a big weight off our back, and we feel we are getting a good value for what we are paying. They handled the transition beautifully, with no problems, and their support staff was on hand 24/7 to assist when needed.
