SmartSynch, a global leader in wireless smart metering technology, has partnered with Venture Technologies to engineer, host and manage a secure, fully redundant networking infrastructure. Urtilizing Venture’s world-class Network Operations and Data Center, will allow SmartSynch to enhance data-flow management, functionality and service for its utility clientele, which consist of more than 70 major North American utilities and distribution companies.
SmartSynch's IP-enabled SmartMeters facilitate real-time acquisition of critical data from electricity meters, including usage, outage, quality, demand metrics and theft/tamper detection data. Once aggregated, this information is transmitted back to the utilities via public wireless networks (AT&T in the U.S. and Rogers Wireless in Canada) and the Internet. Once received and processed, this data enables utilities to increase their power and operational efficiency while affording their customers the ability to manage daily energy usage and significantly reduce their electricity bills and impact on the environment.
Through this new partnership, SmartSynch will work with Venture to deploy, host and manage a networking communications solution that will securely receive data from SmartSynch meters, then route the data to the designated utility company associated with each meter. This 'direct-connect' capability, made possible by an agreement between AT&T/Rogers, SmartSynch and Venture, streamlines the dataflow process between the network carriers and hundreds of thousands of SmartMeter endpoints, while guaranteeing utilities reliable, never-fail 24/7 uptime via a secure, disaster-proof, redundant platform.
The networking and storage hardware and software comprising the solution will be located in Venture’s secure, hardened and fully redundant Data Center under a SLA that will ensure continuous, reliable and trouble-free operations. Venture will also create and manage a fully redundant communications infrastructure at Vericenter’s Denver-based Data Center. This architecture will ensure 99.999% network reliability and uptime for SmartSynch’s utility customers.
"Industry analysts are predicting that 8 out of every 10 households in North America will be equipped with SmartMeters by 2012. Partnering with Venture Technologies allows us to proactively prepare for this day, while utilizing our in-house resources to focus on product development and customer service," said Stephen Johnston, SmartSynch CEO. "This networking infrastructure will uniquely qualify us to securely manage unlimited quantities of network connections, as well as the day-to-day functionality of each meter we deploy, without fail."
“We are excited about our partnership with SmartSynch”, said Gerard Gibert, Venture’s CEO. For SmartSynch to entrust this critical element of the extraordinary value proposition provided by their technology to us is truly a testament to the reliability of our Data Center facility and systems and the quality of the service provided by our staff”.
