In January 2002, seven of the oldest, most respected insurance agencies in Mississippi merged to form Southgroup, the largest privately owned insurance agency in Mississippi. The union resulted in 130 employees in 17 locations representing more than 50 insurance companies. Immediately, Southgroup president Ronnie Tubertini had a challenge: to create a singular platform to consolidate the new firm’s information systems.
“We hired a technology consultant and formed a separate company, Bluegoose Agency Services, as an ASP to the insurance industry, knowing that we later planned for Bluegoose to handle administrative work for other agencies,” said Ronnie Tubertini, Bluegoose CEO. “We compared data centers and hosting organizations from New Orleans to Atlanta, and Venture Technologies kept coming out on top because, among other factors, the company had the facility, the certified personnel, and the engineers to do the job.”
The benefits of doing business with Venture Technologies were immediately recognized, said Tubertini.
“Before, someone in each office was responsible for making sure computers worked every day,” said Tubertini. “Letting Venture Technologies do the job took us out of the tech business and helped us concentrate on our core business. Now, someone from our Laurel office can instantly communicate with someone in our Clarksdale office on a particular coverage or insurance carrier issue.”
Having access to the system from anywhere in the world with a telephone line has immensely boosted productivity, said Tubertini.
“I was recently in Mexico, stuck in meetings for three days, and never lost touch with what was going on in my office because once I connected my laptop in my hotel room, I had Southgroup in front of me.”
Venture Technologies’ exceeded expectations early on, said Tubertini.
“We expected to work our way into the level of service we wanted, but the Venture Technologies staff exceeded our expectations from the beginning,” he said. “They dedicated all their resources to get us up and running on our time frame.”
